2011 Good Earth Program Serves 419 Families

On April 9, Morgan-Scott Project gave potato seeds, fertilizer, tomato, cabbage and broccili plants, and vegetable seeds to 419 families for use in their home gardens.  This was made possible by seed and monetary donations from many churches and the hard work of many individuals.  MSP volunteer Bob Wright pulled an overloaded trailer to the picnic shelter at the Grand Vista Motel in Huntsville, where the seeds were distributed to Scott County families by a group of college students from Olivette College in Michigan.  Garden supplies were also given to inmates of the Scott County jail, so that they could make a garden, and to a youth group from a church in Norma, TN for planting during Bible School.  In Morgan County seeds were distributed by MSP volunteers and by youth from Mid-Town United Methodist Church of Kingston, TN.  Bonnie Plant Farm of Knoxville donated 300 cabbage plants and 300 broccoli plants for the program.  A canning class is planned for later this summer.  For more details and pictures click here   to read an excellent  blog by Flour Sack Mama.
