A group of six worked with MSP Executive Director Ella Smith to clean up a part of the Old Capital Hill School Building, where the Scott Homeless Shelter is located, to set up a pantry there. Because of this work, MSP was able to open the Scott County Food Pantry on March 29, and to serve 58 families the first week. This group then spent two days measuring and packaging seeds and onion sets for the Good Earth Program.
A group of eight worked with MSP volunteer Lee Crabtree to build an 8’ by 8’ deck on the back and an 8’ by 12’ covered porch on the front of the trailer of a lady named Julie.
Another group of eight, worked with MSP volunteer John Owens on Glenda’s home. They tore off parts of the roof on a porch that was falling down, put a new roof on the remaining porch, and new supports under the porch. They also removed all of the rotten wood and debris. They then put a railing and pickets around the MSP Thrift Store porch and poured a concrete ramp.
Still another group of eight worked with MSP volunteer Junior Clowers to tear a rotten porch off of a home and to replace it with a porch and a roof, along with a wheelchair ramp. This will be a great help to Thelma and her husband, the elderly and disabled couple who live there.
In addition, this wonderful group left a generous monetary gift to partially cover the cost of materials. The enthusiasm and work ethic of this group of Christ’s servants is greatly appreciated by the Morgan-Scott community.
