We are most happy to report that the Tennessee House of Representatives recognized the good deeds of MSP Executive Director Ella Smith on October 24, 2012. Speaker Beth Harwell read a proclamation on the House floor, detailing Ella’s many accomplishments.
With a ”Whereas” in front of each accomplishment, she told the state of Tennessee how Ella supervised numerous workgroups each year as they accomplished home repairs and wheelchair ramps, how the Good Earth program provided seed and fertilizer for 487 families, how backpacks and school supplies were furnished to 217 school children, how the New Light Educational Assistance program enabled many adults to learn a vocation and obtain jobs, how bread and other food products were distributed to approximately 50 families each Friday, how food boxes, cleaning products, and hygiene items were distributed to 90-100 families each month, how a Food Pantry and Homeless Shelter were started in Scott County, how emergency aid is supplied to many poor families, how a Thrift Store supplies adult and children’s clothing at very low (sometimes no) cost, and how Christmas gifts are distributed each Christmas to about 2000 children.
Speaker Harwell noted that this non-profit 501(c)3 enterprise is supported by donations from churches and individuals from across the United States. In thanking her for her work on behalf of the citizens of Morgan and Scott counties, she called Ella a true Tennessee treasure. We couldn’t agree more. Congratulations, Ella! We’re glad the rest of Tennessee recognizes your work.
